Gabriele Biancheri is one of many Manchester United youngsters on the brink of a first-team breakthrough.
Just over a week ago, Ruben Amorim urged United to improve their academy, insisting more players must be promoted to the first team.
After a relatively quiet January transfer window due to PSR concerns, looking to the academy has become a necessity for Amorim if he wants to add to his squad.
Unlike the first team, United’s Under-18s side have been in red-hot form this season with only one defeat in 13 league games so far.
Chido Obi could make his debut this season after starring in the academy following his summer move, while Godwill Kukonki has also impressed Amorim and been involved in matchday squads this season.
Joining them on the brink of a breakthrough is Gabriele Biancheri.

As said before, Chido Obi has been in incredible form this season, but he has actually been outscored in the Under-18s by Welsh forward Biancheri, who has netted 16 times in 17 appearances for the academy.
Biancheri was United’s best academy star in 2024 but his start to 2025 has been hindered by injury.

In January, Biancheri confirmed he had surgery on a broken hand which has left him unavailable for recent matches.
Before Biancheri’s injury, the Under-18s boasted a perfect 100 percent winning record in the league. Since his absence, they have lost to Manchester City and drew 2-2 with Liverpool on Saturday afternoon.
Thankfully, though, Biancheri’s return seems imminent. According to Manchester Evening News, Biancheri was spotted taking shots in the warm-up before the Liverpool clash this weekend.
Biancheri was expected to return in mid-February and it seems that timeline is still on track. The 18-year-old has been sorely missed, but he could return in time for the FA Youth Cup clash against Chelsea on Wednesday evening.
When Gabriele Biancheri is expected to make his Man United debut
In the final hours of the January transfer window, United received an offer from Como to sign Biancheri but it was swiftly rejected.
That is because the Red Devils have high hopes for Biancheri, and his first-team debut is on the horizon.
Biancheri has impressed on the left in the academy, which suggests he could be a great option to replace Marcus Rashford following his move to Aston Villa.
However, United are understandably hesitant to throw him into a side that is currently struggling for goals and creativity.

Instead, Biancheri is expected to join United in pre-season, which should give Amorim plenty of time to assess the youngster before deciding whether to promote him to the first team.
There is still a chance that Biancheri could make his debut before the summer, but United seem unlikely to rotate in cup competitions given their increased importance this season.
